Local MP Craig Tracey and County Councillor Joan Lea have welcomed an agreement between the Environment Agency, Warwickshire County Council and Nether Whitacre Parish Council for maintenance of a surface water pump. The pump will help to prevent flooding in the village.
Residents contacted the North Warwickshire MP with concerns over the insurance costs of pump; in particular the public liability insurance.
Craig contacted the Environment Agency to discuss the issues raised by the group and it was agreed that they would look into Parish Council concerns with the long term maintenance and insurance implications.
Craig Tracey MP commented:
“This is a victory for residents and local campaigners who have been calling for this for a number of years. Existing flood defence were outdated.
“I am delighted that the Environment Agency has agreed to fund the full cost of maintaining the pumping station.”
Warwickshire County Council has provided £32,500 funding from the Defra pathfinder project for the Whitacre Heath Pump.
County Cllr Joan Lea said:
“The Parish Council and residents are having further discussions to secure the long-term future of the pump. We hope to have letter of agreement in writing very soon after working on the finer detail.”
